About Recycle Week 2024
Now in its 21st year, Recycle week is taking place from 14th-20th October 2024. This year’s theme ‘Rescue Me’ focuses on saving recyclable items heading to the rubbish bin. This weeklong event is dedicated to raising awareness about the environmental benefits of recycling, reducing waste, and conserving natural resources. It highlights the impact recycling has on reducing carbon emissions, protecting wildlife, and creating a more sustainable future for all.
By recycling at least one extra item as a part of our daily recycling routine will make a huge difference. Did you know that we save 18 million tonnes of CO2 a year by recycling?Throughout Recycle Week, various campaigns and activities are organised to educate the public about what can and cannot be recycled, how to recycle correctly, and the importance of reducing contamination in recycling streams. This year’s sponsors, Boots and Tesco are supporting the mission to encourage and inspire everyone to rescue those recyclables!

A Guide to Recycling at Home
Below is our guide to making recycling that little bit easier.
Check the recycling symbol
The recycling symbol on the bottom of plastic containers indicates the type of plastic. Lower numbers are more likely to be recyclable.
Clean, dry, and loose
Make sure items are clean, dry, and loose. Clean items are free of food and drink leftovers, and dry items aren’t soggy. Loose items aren’t tied up in plastic bags.
Squash flat
Squash items flat to save space in your bin and in recycling collection vehicles. Check with your local recycling program Check with your local recycling program for specific guidelines and regulations.
Reduce waste
Try to reduce the amount of waste you generate.
