We are thrilled to announce that we have won Silver in the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Award category at Tourism South East’s Beautiful South Awards!
The award recognises tourism businesses committed to being sustainable, responsible and ethical in how they operate and interact with customers, the wider community and the environment.
“We’re really proud to win this award as our team is committed to delivering responsible operations throughout our business. BA i360 Viewing Tower was built and is operated with sustainability at heart. We generate our own electricity, use only green energy, buy local and dispose of waste responsibly. We’re also a Living Wage employer and support multiple charities every year. It was a wonderful evening, hosted brilliantly at The Grand. Congratulations to all the winners!” Ian Hart, Chief Operating Officer.
Fellow finalists for the award were the Aviator hotel in Farnborough and the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton who both won bronze, and Marwell Wildlife in Winchester who won gold.
The Beautiful South Awards for Excellence recognise and celebrate the very best tourism businesses and experiences in South East England. The ceremony is held annually to commemorate all of the hard work and achievements made by the flourishing tourism industry in the South East.
All the ways we are a responsible business:
No pointless Plastic:
As part of our mission to keep the beaches of Brighton clean we’re dedicated to reducing our plastic waste.
Renewable Energy, we’re a fan:
BA i360 powers the attraction from 100% renewable energy sources. In fact, more than 50% of the energy required to power the pod upwards is captured every time the pod comes down – meaning every third flight is self-powered.
Zero Waste:
We ensure that all our waste is either recycled or disposed of responsibly, meaning nothing goes to landfill.
Living Wage Champions:
We’re proud to be a Local Living Wage employer and also to have created more than 100 new local jobs at BA i360. More than 80% of staff live within 5 miles of the attraction.
Celebrating Sussex:
We’re proud to call Brighton and Sussex home and love to support local businesses and suppliers. Most of the drinks serves at the Sky Bar are produced in Sussex, along with over 40% of items sold in our shop.
